This year Collin gave me the best Valentine’s gift I’ve ever gotten. A couple of weeks ago I was looking at the studio schedule and noticed that there was nothing on the books for Valentine’s Day. In my head I did a silent cheer and told him I knew exactly what I wanted for Valentine’s. He said he was thinking we could do something fun, all four of us together and asked if that’s what I was thinking. HA. Not even close, Bubba. I wanted him to teach science for me. I HATE science. Hate is a strong word, you say? I still say I hate science. It’s not my thing. Give me a History book, a Math book or a Language book and I’ll teach my little momma-teacher heart out. But science? It drives me crazy. I begged Collin to have a Science Day with the kids and get through a good chunk of the curriculum for me as my Valentine’s gift. He accepted. LOVE that man.
Yes, my son is in a Halloween costume and my daughter is in {camo John Deere hand-me-down from her brother} pajama pants. I could tell you that I let them dress this way because it was Valentine’s Day but that would be a lie. We pretty much always school in pajamas, at least for the first hour or so. It drives Collin crazy.
Not sure what Collin is pulling out of CB’s hair but I think the look she’s giving him is pretty funny.
I think her look here is pretty funny, too. She’s clearly questioning what her Daddy is telling her.
The man got through TWO WEEKS of Science for me in just one day. And they retained it. I have never been so happy about a Valentine’s gift. Or maybe any gift. I think this will be a new tradition. After the little Science Day we made brownies and the kids worked on Valentine’s for friends. We’re working on cutting WAY down on the processed foods that we consume here at home. We’re definitely not all the way there, but we have made some pretty big changes. So, the brownies were a “real foods” recipe. Definitely not as tasty as the box mix, but better than nothing. They were very grainy due to the wheat flour, but the kids enjoyed them and that’s really all that mattered to me. It’s a learning process but I’m loving filling my little babes’ bodies with good stuff. =)
Then they worked on Valentine’s for friends and family. It’s so funny to me to watch kids pick out who gets what card. They both really think it out and take their time determining why someone should get the tennis ball versus the basketball (Mak) or who should have the ballerina versus the cupcake with sparkle sprinkles (CB). I love them.
All in all it was a pretty great, perfectly ordinary Valentine’s. Hope yours was, too. =)
I hate science, too! Can’t wait to pick a new curriculum for next year. 🙂
My boys want to play again soon(and me!!). Sean is here until Monday. After that, we’re free as can be.
Talk soon!
