Collin had a Bridal session in Beaufort last night, so the kids and I went down with him for a night away. We stayed at Disney’s Hilton Head Resort. I was VERY CAREFUL not to mention to Mak the word “Disney” for fear that he would be disappointed when he couldn’t ride “fast cars” or teacups. As soon as we arrived, though, he saw the Mickey ears on the door and his whole face lit up. “We’re at Disney World!!!!” he yelled. I kept trying to explain that this wasn’t really Disney, but there was NO convincing my boy. He still says that we were at Disney, even though there were no rides and no characters!
The resort was GREAT!!! Beautiful rooms and views, plenty to do (or not do if you chose), and the best part of it all…we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom unit for $20 a night less than we were quoted!!! We will definitely return!
We were STARVING after getting checked in, so we grabbed some food and took it back to the room to eat on the porch. The weather was perfect.
I guess it did kind of feel like Disney World…
We left Clara Beth’s bib in the car, so Collin asked her to please try to be neat. So she put her napkin in her lap all on her own! Sweet Baby!
2 Sweet Babies rockin’
We had about an hour before Collin had to leave for the session, so we explored the resort and let Mak ride his balance bike.
The pool was heated, and people were actually swimming! Not us, though. Evidentally, the Meanest Mama in the world forgot her son’s bathing suit. I heard A LOT about that when we saw other kids swimming. 🙂
We made him turn around after we read the sign.
One of the “Cast members” (they’re called that there, too) saw me alone with the kids after Collin left for the session, and offered some crayons and coloring pages for the kids. So we took them back to the room to color (or “co” as CB says). Oh, and the Cast member knew Mak’s name! Without me ever telling her! I don’t know how, but that’s some pretty good customer relations, don’t ya think?
Mak chose Buzz
And CB chose Jasmine
After Collin came back, we ate supper and headed to the fire pit for a camp fire (this pic was taken the next day. We didn’t take the camera to the camp fire). They sang songs with the kids and then made s’mores. It was a lot of fun.
We all slept great, and woke up to a beautiful, COLD morning. The cold didn’t stop us from enjoying coffee on our porch, though. We don’t get a view like this too often! I LOVE the coast!
Our condo
After breakfast, we headed to the general store. I am a huge Disney fan (as you may have figured out by now), but I’m not one of those souvenir crazed people. I don’t decorate with Mickey and I don’t wear the clothes. The one souvenir I always buy, though, is a coffee cup. I like drinking my coffee in the morning and remembering the trip that my cup came from. So this time, I let Mak pick the cup out for me. He chose Donald Duck. I told him that was appropriate, because I sometimes feel like Donald in the morning (Donald Duck is sometimes very GRUMPY). Mak said “I know, Mommy. That’s why I picked it.”
*ahem* Thanks, Baby Boy.
And then, the BIGGEST treat of the trip for the kids…Mickey Mouse ice-cream bars! Then Mak KNEW he was at Disney!!!
We found a cool tree to “be Mogli” in.
And just as we were leaving, Collin spotted Herbie in the parking lot! Someone actually made their car look just like Herbie. Mak LOVED it!
It was a great, short get-away, and we hope to return someday. A little taste of Disney, only 3 hours from home!
thank you for the fun comments! I was just on your blog as well and enjoyed the trip to “disney, almost” blog – i love to keep up with your precious little ones, as well. They are PRECIOUS!! I hope you are all well. And hope to see you real soon!
what a fun getaway…at least a little ‘taste’ of Disney not so far away from home.
let’s get our princesses together.
