When we’re out there…

We don’t bring toys…except the bikes. We don’t check email or facebook or even texts…because there is no cell service. The kids go to bed dirty…I’ve tried to stop it but I can’t. Cicadas sing us to sleep, the smell of campfire lingers in their hair and they find all types of creepy creatures to scare me with. They fully enjoy this great big beautiful earth that our Heavenly Father has created for us. They enjoy it so much more there than they typically do when we are at home. And so do their Daddy and I. I think those are the reasons that we love camping so much. On the drive up to Table Rock this weekend, Clara Beth says “How ’bout dis? How ’bout we sell everything and just live in da camper?” Don’t tempt us, Baby…

Seriously, though, how stinkin’ AWESOME is our state in that we can play in the surf of the Atlantic or splash in a mountain stream? I LOVE South Carolina.

We started school this year with a nature hike at Paris Mt. exploring the habitats of SC wildlife.

Clara Beth was the first to find a creature in the stream with the help of our guide. She found a mayfly but you would have thought it was gold with the way she reacted.

And then Mak found a dragonfly in the nymphal stage. I had no idea that dragonflies live in the water before they get their wings.

Fierce, WILD Mountain Boy. =)

We then took all of the little creatures back to the lab and explored them under the microscope. REALLY fun field trip/first day of school!

Hiking Carrick Creek

I was SOOOOO Excited to have the Kennebeck and Tellis kids with us. They were fun to hang out with, but even more than that they totally took care of my babies on that terrifying sliding rock. I was a nervous wreck watching from the sidelines. The kids were in Heaven.

God Bless Margaret Ann for taking my child down that mountain 365 times.

Mak conquered the high dive at the Swimming Hole. Brave Boy.

There was an AMAZING waterfall/pool area that the kids loved. Also, we did Kathleen’s Senior session here! Can’t wait to share. =)

Begging us to play longer through freezing blue lips.

This was such a fun place to camp and the kids say it’s been their favorite trip so far. I highly recommend Table Rock State Park. We hit a few bumps like the car breaking down 15 miles before we got there (gotta love a mechanic who can fix your car from over 200 miles away…we LOVE Creel Tire!!!) and the camper not being level so we slept sideways each night. Just so you know, that REALLY throws your equilibrium off and you wake up the next morning feeling pretty drunk. All in all, though, a great camping trip. Can’t wait to go back.
