The “Fun” part of the Charleston trip…

Do you ever have one of those days where you wake up and you just KNOW that you MUST get out of town that day? That was Saturday for me. This past weekend was great. Mom and Dad surprised us by taking the kids for a sleepover on Friday night so Collin and I could enjoy a night out alone. I love it when they do that. I really have no idea how people raise kids without having loads of family around. I have many friends who do it and I see the juggling that they sometimes have to do just to get a babysitter, and it makes me SOOOO thankful for my parents, my brothers and their wives. Family ROCKS!!!

So anyway, Collin and I had great night to ourselves, woke up and did the whole soccer thing with Mak, came home for lunch on the deck and I brought up “Hey, Sweetie…Maybe we could go to Charleston for the night and do CB’s portrait? Please???” Nevermind the fact that it was already 1:00 on Saturday. Nevermind the fact that we were not packed, had no thought of where we would stay and Oh,yeah…it was supposed to rain. Buckets. And rain is generally not ideal for the outdoor portrait. But I REALLY wanted to get away. So we did. Have I mentioned before how much I ADORE my husband? He’s generally okay with it when I suggest things like this…or accidentally book Disney trips…or Disney Cruises…gotta Love the man. We threw things in a bag and were off. Still no hotel room. I tried to book something on the way down there and NOTHING was available. Then the rain started. This trip was starting to look like a really bad idea. But wouldn’t you know it, as soon as we drove into Charleston the clouds parted and the skies cleared up. We shopped for awhile (always fun with Mak), gave up on the idea of staying downtown and headed over to Patriots Point. Got a hotel room, ate, put the kids to bed and Collin and I enjoyed an evening to ourselves on the balcony overlooking the Charleston Harbor. It turned out to be the perfect night!

The next morning Collin and Mak enjoyed some Guy Time watching the Yorktown and all of the barges that passed by. Mak was in heaven. I LOVE these boys. 🙂

Look at Collin’s face here. 🙂 They would have both stayed here all day long watching big boats.

And then we explored the submarine…

Mak is ALWAYS taking pictures now. Have I mentioned lately that this little boy’s world revolves around his daddy? He is constantly asking when he can start working with Collin.

Then we headed back downtown to do the portrait. Bribery is always, ALWAYS involved when we photograph our children. It’s so stressful for all of us and a prize of some sort is just necessary. This time, it was the promise of a stop at the candy shop where they could pick out ANYTHING that they wanted. Wow. That’s pure craziness in the mind of a 3 and 5 year old. We probably spent over an hour here. But I love the pictures I got of them! 🙂 Candy is just so colorful and fun to photograph!
