Oh my Word, I LOVE these two little girls and I am SO blessed to be their aunt!!! Remember a couple of weeks back when we went to Charleston for a weekend of sessions? One of those sessions was for our two nieces, Lilah Drew and Caroline. Actually, due to weather the sessions ended up being split up into two sessions, but thank goodness we were able to get them both in that weekend. We did the first set, Lilah Drew and the family, in my aunt and uncle’s neighborhood, and the second set, Sweet Caroline’s heirloom portrait, in downtown Charleston. I love the way both of the locations turned out! Since we did Miss Lilah Drew first, I’ll start with her. This baby is PURE SUGAR, am I right?
From there we headed out to do a quick family portrait. This wasn’t the main focus of the weekend, and it’s a good thing, because poor Sweet Caroline was TIRED and not at all thrilled to be in front of the camera. And she let us know. 😉 I do love this, though! Seriously, Charleston is SO Beautiful and has so many incredible locations!
The next morning it was time for the most important part of the session…Sweet Caroline’s heirloom portrait. We are often asked what we mean when we use the term “heirloom” portrait. Well, to us, it’s that portrait that you will always look back on as representing your child’s childhood. The one that will stand the test of time…classic…no crazy effects or unnatural settings. Your child looking just as they do in that age that you would love to hold onto forever. You know that feeling you get as a parent of wanting to just bottle them up? Not that you don’t love watching your baby grow up, but childhood is SO fleeting…it’s nice to have something beautiful to remind you of this time. This is the portrait that will hang on your wall forever and ever. Your grandchildren will one day love looking at this portrait of their parents at this age. It’s timeless. We typically love ages 3, 4, and 5 for the heirloom portrait, although we have seen it done at many different ages. I can’t believe that Baby CiCi is already old enough for her heirloom portrait! Our teeny Sweet Caroline will be three very soon. Unbelievable. It feels like this sweet baby should still be just that…a baby. And I know I’m biased, but really? This child is STUNNING. That hair! She is such a beautiful girl, inside and out, and we are so thankful that she’s part of our family. We love you, Caroline!
And you know what’s REALLY great about photographing family in downtown Charleston? If they behave and are good little listeners for their session, EVERYBODY wins because you all get to go out for a whoopee pie and cupcake when it’s over. Thanks for listening, Caroline! =)
Charleston is one of our favorite places in the world, both to work in and to visit. We already have a Fall Charleston Weekend in the works, so be on the lookout for those session dates! And please email if you would like to be on the first contact list for those sessions! collin@cmsmithportraits.com.
