I’m blogging way out of order here. There are still a ton of winter and spring family posts that I need to get to the blog, but yesterday was my birthday and I spent about an hour last night downloading and working on photos from my birthday trip to Charleston so I decided to go ahead and post while my memories are fresh. See, I turned a year older yesterday. My memories are going fast. I wish I was kidding. Anyway, we packed up the kids on Sunday morning and headed to my favorite Southern city, Charleston. We had a senior session and did Clara Beth’s {gulp} nine year session while we were there, but other than that the trip was full of wandering aimlessly downtown. Oh, and eating. I turned off the My Fitness Pal app as a gift to myself. It was fabulous.
Have y’all seen those memories that Facebook keeps popping up? They slay me! I’m sitting there on the couch in the morning minding my business with a cup of coffee in hand and up pops a picture of my little dirty-footed, long blond haired, impossibly SWEET four year old boy. Gracious that pulls at my momma heart. For that reason I’m trying to be better about photographing more of our everyday moments with my real camera as opposed to just using Instagram. I love Instagram. As Collin says, the best camera is the one you have with you, and I always have that one with me. But I do love my real camera. I’m resolving to be better about using it more.
Here are some real camera photos from Sunday night. Collin ran out to grab some breakfast for Monday morning and while he was gone I scooted down to the pool to wear some children out so they would be nice and ready for SLEEP. So their momma and daddy could enjoy a little hotel balcony date night without them in a couple of hours. It worked splendidly.
The water was a tad bit chilly.
He may hurt me for this pic one day. But I think he’s cute.
Because they were the only fools who would jump in that frigid water they had the pool all to themselves.
Why do kids think belly flops are fun?
Collin returned from his very interesting trip to Whole Foods {he’s pretty much convinced that everyone who works there is high} and we put the kids to bed while we sat on the balcony and looked out at Charleston harbor. Other than our camper, that’s one of my very favorite vacation spots. And Mak only came out to ask us unimportant questions about seven times, so the wearing them out with swimming thing worked. Nosy child. I love him to death.
The next morning we woke up and my people showered me with birthday kisses and presents and flowers and good coffee, and we walked out on the balcony and saw that a cruise ship had parked itself in the Charleston Harbor. I know lots of people hate the cruise ships coming to Charleston, but big ships fascinate me so this was a good thing. It was a very happy birthday morning. We headed downtown to do Clara Beth’s session and then did a carriage ride. The children are writing a field trip report today, so that was one more school day to check off. We’re so close to summer I can taste it.
And then we ended the day with more good food and shopping. These desserts were insane. But Oh My Gracious, delicious.
Oh, and another thing? Mak hates Charleston. He told us he doesn’t get the point of it. It’s just a bunch of walking around looking at old stuff. So anytime the rest of us were doing something that he deemed boring, this is what you would find him doing. Clara Beth on the other hand thinks this is the greatest city ever. Mak said that Charleston should be one of those places that we take CB to for a daughter trip and we should find a really cool place to race go karts for him. =)
It was an incredibly fun trip! I am so thankful to my Lord for another year on this earth and with these people. I couldn’t have planned a better way to spend my day. Thank you, Collin Smith. I love you like crazy.
