Truth be told, Halloween is one of those days I could do without. I say that every year and I know I’m in the minority. I’m okay with that. Honestly, my kids hyped up on way too much sugar is my own personal form of self punishment and something that I tend to avoid. But I get that they love the dressing up, trick or treating, and of course, the candy. Not gonna lie, though, when we were headed home from trick or treating Friday night and they both said that they thought next year they would enjoy handing out candy rather than dressing up and going out, I got all sorts of excited. So there’s a chance that this was the Smith kids’ last year of trick or treating. This is one stage I’m not sad to outgrow. But please, please bring your dressed up sweet ones to us for trick or treating next year! I love seeing the little ones and I promise to hand out the good candy! =)
While trick or treating isn’t my thing, I do love a good pumpkin carving. And now that they’re old enough to do the whole thing by themselves start to finish it’s even more fun. It always becomes a competition and I love seeing their creative little minds work. Admittedly, sometimes those creative minds become a touch demented during this particular project {Makgill}, but I still love it. This year we carved pumpkins one evening while Collin had an Engagement session out of town. Parson and Lilah happened to stop by just before the carving began, so they stayed and it became boys vs. girls. Trash talk was FLYING. It was hilarious and I had so much fun watching these four big kids. When did they get so grown?!? I remember carving pumpkins with them in the Granger’s garage when Miss CB could barely even walk on her own. Now she’s wielding a knife by herself.
I made them do it all, even the cleaning out of the pumpkin guts. Clara Beth ended up just filling her pumpkin with water because she didn’t want to touch them. It worked.
This was the extent of the boys’ planning. A face on paper. The girls planned and planned and drew out a thousand different designs before settling on the perfect one.
Knives in the eyes. Clever, boys.
Planning…
These next three pictures make me smile!
Boys are pretty well finished with their pumpkin by this point.
The girls are still planning.
I mean, for real, they planned FOREVER.
The various options…
And finally they were ready to begin the carving process. Here’s where the trash talk started flying.
This girl is NINE today!! Happy Birthday, Lilah!
After seeing the girls’ plans the boys decided that they needed to step it up a notch or two.
He spits!
And finally, Done! It was such a fun evening! Love these four. =)
And I’ll leave you with the very few photos that I took on Halloween. Clara Beth dressed as a 50s girl. So stinkin’ CUTE. We found the poodle skirt at a yard sale a few weeks ago and the plan was to let her be a 50s girl and Mak be a greaser. Unfortunately though, Mak ended up looking more like a woman than a greaser so that plan was quickly abandoned. We were headed to Tomlinsons for the annual cousin photo with my dad, so we bought a whole bunch of camo there and he went as a hunter instead.
The Tomlinsons cousin pic with Boom Boom. It’s a tradition. =)
And another tradition, the cousin pic with NaNa {their great grandmother}. We went for goofy this year.
See, we went for goofy in that last pic because this is what we got when we asked for smiles from them. Bless it.
And lastly, Lilah Drew. Because CUTEST MINNIE EVER, right??? LOVE!
And there it is for documentation sake. Halloween 2014. Bring on November!!! My absolute FAVORITE month of all!
