Oh, what a FUN night we had last night!! This is a night that we look forward to every year…the night of The Novel Event! Have you heard of it? It’s a HUGE fundraising event for The Florence Area Literacy Council. Did you know that one in THREE people in our area are considered illiterate?!? That’s something we learned last night and I was completely Stunned! I mean, how can a person get a job if they can’t read? That’s what The Literacy Council is here for. They teach adults to read, thus enabling them to find employment. It’s a huge job and they have seen a 50% increase in clients over the past year. Once a year there is a silent auction and party to benefit The Literacy Council called The Novel Event. Basically, groups of people get together and choose a book. They then dress in character and decorate their table to fit the theme of the book. And they GO ALL OUT. It is always HILARIOUS!!! When else can you see a yoga instructor dressed as a sumo wrestler shaking her stuff on the dance floor of The Florence Country Club?
