If you’ve read this blog in the past then you probably are aware that the Smiths are pretty big fans of the beach. Well, this weekend we found a new one to love. Just a little over two hours away…Holden Beach. LOVE it. It reminds me so much of Ocean Isle Beach, where I grew up vacationing. We headed up Friday afternoon to photograph our great friends, Rob, Julie and Luke, and then stayed to play for another day. We found a perfect spot to photograph and I can’t wait to share that session here on the blog. First, though…here’s the fun stuff from the weekend.
No portrait session at the beach is complete without the promise of ice cream as a reward for good smiles. Luke nailed the whole smile thing at the session so afterwards we headed to the closest place right on the beach. Don’t you love atmosphere of an old beach ice cream shop? I do. =)
What is it about those machines that’s so appealing to a kid?
Saturday was super overcast and even chilly. In July? Um, yeah, we’ll take that kind of weather and sit outside in it all day long. You simply don’t get “chilly” in the South in July. Coffee on the porch overlooking the marsh was perfect.
Wow, that’s a whole lotta teeth early in the morning…
I know it’s an awful photo, but Mak spotted a deer in the marsh! Made my boy’s day.
I think it’s funny that this old school gameboy is what the kids’ toy of choice for the weekend was.
We headed out to the beach pretty early…it was WINDY!!!
When we saw Luke face down in the surf we knew it was time to move on.
Oh, and MAJOR props to this guy. He was old and he was FIT. Look at his LEGS! Seriously, I’ve never seen anything like it. Really, though? A flesh toned speedo to run in on the beach? There’s got to be a better option than that out there. I bet he has an amazing sense of humor. =)
Clean up, lunch at the beach house and then we headed off to South Point (or was it Port?!). We shopped around for awhile and then when the kids got tired of that (and we got tired of the whining) we hopped on a ferry to Fort Fisher.
It was really a lot of fun. I definitely think that the most entertaining part of the trip for the kids was watching the birds poop all over the cars. It was pretty nasty. We drove off of the ferry, took one look at the DARK sky and turned around to get right back in line to wait for the next ferry. While we waited, Collin photographed Miss CB in the flowers. The boys sat that one out and hung out in the car.
The return trip on the ferry wasn’t nearly as much fun. We stayed in the car as we were traveling through this:
It wasn’t pretty. But later it cleared up and we got to see this gorgeous sunset. Robert, Julie and Luke, we had a FANTASTIC weekend!!! Thank you SO Much!
